Restaurante El Pariente sits right off Carretera Nacional at Kilómetro 216, serving up a hearty selection of authentic Mexican dishes with a clear focus on breakfast and traditional fare. It draws a steady stream of travelers stopping in for a reliable meal, as well as locals who appreciate its straightforward, no-fuss atmosphere.

The restaurant’s spacious layout, including a large parking lot, makes it a convenient stop for families and groups on road trips or weekend outings. Inside, the vibe is casual and welcoming, with efficient service supported by modern ordering methods like iPads—a practical touch that speeds up the whole experience, especially when it can get busy. Despite its size, the place manages to feel organized rather than overwhelming.

Food-wise, the menu highlights standouts like tacos de arrachera with melted cheese and guacamole, gorditas filled with savory arrachera, and classic desayuno choices such as machaca con huevo and menudo. The tortillas here draw particular praise; chewy and fresh with that authentic corn flavor that makes every bite satisfying. Side dishes like frijoles charros and pan de elote complement the mains well, rounding out a filling meal that reflects regional taste preferences.

Visitors looking for a genuinely local experience will appreciate the balance between traditional dishes and the lively roadside setting. While the menu isn’t extensive, it focuses on doing a few items very well rather than overloading with options. This makes it a solid choice when you want familiar Mexican breakfast staples or a robust mid-morning bite along the highway.

The atmosphere feels family-friendly and practical rather than trendy or upscale. Perfect for those who want a sit-down meal without the pretense—especially families or travelers passing through who value quick, flavorful food and clean facilities. The bustling yet orderly environment, combined with visibly attentive staff, adds to a well-oiled experience even during busy times.

El Pariente works best for anyone traveling the Carretera Nacional looking to pause for a quality meal with a distinctly regional character—whether you’re craving tender arrachera tacos, a comforting bowl of menudo, or simply a solid breakfast plate to fuel the day ahead.

A really nice place to eat along the way, clean bathrooms and nice place overall. The personnel is nice and they take your order using an iPad app so it's fast to order and the food delivery is even faster for that main reason, I just wish they had more food variety. Nice and great place overall.

I came here twice while staying in Canoas. I heard amazing things from multiple people in the area and it definitely lived up to its reputation. The group I was with ate vegetarian, but the meat smelled amazing. Literally every dish tasted perfect. The rice was soft, perfect texture and flavor. The tortillas made my soul melt in happiness. The grilled onions were a highlight, definitely recommend them as part of your taco experience. The orange juice blew my mind, it was so fresh and delicious. I will be coming back as soon as I can.

El Pariente is a must stop if you are ever on the Carretera Nacional. The food is amazing, the atmosphere inviting and the service is second to none. Throw in the fabulous prices where you get the best bang for your dollar or should I say Peso!

Gotta stop at the famous roadside “Restaurante El Pariente”! This is a huuuuuge roadside restaurant with an ample menu included meats, guisos, desserts, and artisanal ice creams. The food is very tasty, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ever ordered here. The service is efficient and friendly. There is a big parking lot and the place is huge. Great for families! In non-COVID times they have little rides for the kids. They also have a small store where you can buy their locally made products.

These are some of the best tacos I've had! The tacos and Gorditas a must-try. There’s a long waiting to get inside, but it’s worth it. Overall, a fantastic meal that I'd recommend at any hour.

Excellent service, amazing food and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Every time I go to Monterrey this place is a must! The cuts of meats are soft and super delicious. The beans, rice and Gorditas are delicious. My favorite salsa is the red one. Don’t miss this gem!

Very big place with an indoor playground for kids. The food was delicious. I had the ribeye, and my wife had the arrachera. We enjoyed our food very much. We also had a pitcher of lemonada muy sabroso.
